EDB Postgres Extended
Serverは、オープンソースのコミュニティPostgreSQLに基づいて構築されたPostgresデータベースサーバディストリビューションです。
PostgreSQLと完全な互換性があります。
PostgreSQLで動作するように作成およびテストされたアプリケーションがある場合、
EDB Postgres Extended
Serverで同じ動作をします。コミュニティPostgreSQLとEDB Postgres Extended
Serverの機能または動作の違いをサポートおよび修正します。

EDB Postgres Extended
Serverの主な目的は、他の点でパリティを維持しながら、
 :ref:`EDB Postgres Distributed </pgd/latest/>` および :ref:`Transparent data encryption <Transparent data encryption>` で使用される :ref:`enhanced replication optimization <Replication>` など、拡張機能として実装できない限定的な数の機能でPostgreSQLを拡張することです。
